Course 1 Humber Real Estate Exam FAQs

I'm a teacher and I'm currently prepping people looking for a covid career change for the Humber Real Estate Essentials Exams. Please note that the exam body of knowledge is now based on the Humber edition textbooks, but many tutors, gurus and teachers are still using the OREA. The language in the new textbook has changed. Humber College has posted study notes that can help you, along with a bank of questions and answers. Download them here: https://www.humberrealestate.net/

Here are the most frequently asked questions about Course 1 Humber Real Estate Exam NOTE: Most of these tips still apply to online exams administered via ProctorTrack, except with ProctorTrack you’re NOT allowed to use paper and a pen. They DO allow you to have a calculator but there’s also a notepad app and a calculator app in the ProctorTrack program. If you’re working hard to earn your real estate license in Ontario then I bet you have lots of questions about what to expect from the Course 1 exam. Here are the most common questions I’ve heard from other students in the Humber Real Estate Salesperson Program - Course 1 Exam:

WHAT CAN I BRING INTO THE EXAM?

  • Photo identification, student ID number (the number that begins with an ‘X’ and is the same username and password you use to access your online real estate course on Humber’s website.

  • Paper / pencil and scrap paper (you are allowed to bring these items in, and I highly recommend this, especially for Exam 2, 3, etc. The Humber staff will take the scrap paper at the end of the test as a precaution, since you can’t copy down exam information to remove from the test.

  • Clear water bottle without a label.

  • Non-programmable calculator (you won’t need this is Exam 1, but you may want it for Exam 2 and onward. Note: There is a calculator built-in to the exam program, but personally I prefer to bring my own with me.

  • VIRTUAL EXAM EXCEPTION . . . with ProctorTrack you’re NOT allowed to use paper and a pen. They DO allow you to have a calculator but there’s also a notepad app and a calculator app in the ProctorTrack program.

HOW MANY QUESTIONS ARE ON THE EXAM FOR COURSE 1? The Course 1 Exam has 75 multiple choice questions and we need to get 75% right to pass. WHAT WERE THE QUESTIONS ON THE EXAM LIKE? A lot of the questions were pretty straightforward, written in the same language and style as all the modules we’ve learned. Not every detail was covered, but content knowledge from ALL modules was required. They always randomize the questions on each exam, so you won’t necessarily get the same questions as other students will. Every test is unique. A few questions were taken word for word from the test questions in the actual modules, so definitely study all of those again!

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WRITE THE EXAM?

It took me about an hour to write (and I read everything slowly and double checked my answers as I went along) but I had a lot more time I could have used, so take your time and read everything really, really carefully. They officially give you two full hours, however.

HOW DOES THE COMPUTERIZED EXAM SYSTEM WORK?

Once you login with your Humber user ID and password, you can take a tour of the exam interface, which I found super helpful! There is a neat bookmark feature where you flag any questions you want to come back to later. I had about 6 questions I wasn’t pretty sure of the answer so I came back and made my selections at the end.

WHEN WILL I GET MY EXAM MARK?

If you write your exam at the Humber Real Estate building in Toronto you will definitely get your exam mark by shortly after midnight the same day you write your test, no matter what time you write it that day. Typically the mark shows up at about 12:10 am that evening. You can see it by clicking on ‘Enrolment History’ in your Humber student account. If you click on the exam title, and then ‘Enter Exam’, you’ll be able to see the detailed breakdown of how you scored on each module.

WILL I FIND OUT WHAT QUESTIONS I GOT RIGHT OR WRONG?

No, unfortunately even if you request an exam review Humber won’t tell you what you got correct or incorrect. That being said, you can see a detailed breakdown of your exam score based on each module. That being said, each question is weighted differently, and it only shows a percent. For example, if it says you got 50% on questions from Module 2, that could mean you were randomly given 10 questions from that module, and only got half correct. OR it could mean you were given 2 questions from that module and got 1 out of 2 correct. Unfortunately there’s no way to know any further detail without a formal exam review, which you can request if you fail the exam (passing grade is minimum 75%).
